Our Why

Eleanor Anderson Miles was a wife, a mother, sister, grandmother, an educator, a community leader, a friend and an inspiration to all who met her. Eleanor deeply believed in the connection between education and community support. Eleanor approached life with a thoughtfulness and desire to give back in order to leave the world a better place in any why she could. Eleanor believed that in order to create a supportive community, we had to get to know the people that created the communities we are involved in — their purpose, their passions, their feelings. By getting to know the soul of the people that make up our communities, we are able to then find the ways in which we can provide support. Eleanor spent her life supporting her communities, showing up for people, and becoming a pillar of strength for anyone that had the gift of knowing her.

Eleanor battled pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. During this time, Eleanor continued to show up to her grandchildren’s soccer, basketball, and TBall games; she continued to advocate for her passions; and she continued to love on all of her people. Eleanor continues to give back, even after her passing. She requested that her body be donated to UCLA Medical Center, in hopes of creating an opportunity for change.

“Our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge.”
